Been a social media while
Not that much time but I didn't continue building this blog. I got distracted writing in other blog, one more anonymous and feelings oriented.
This one I thought would be more like my blog blog, I mean not just my feelings but also my nerdy stuff like working on the blog, the design, the CSS and being part of the nerdy community here at Bear.
So today I'm just going to react to this post by Cosmic Girl found in the discover feed.
She's right. That's the reaction. I mean, we all know the benefits of bye bye socials, don't we? Well, maybe not all. Because it's addicting. It's like Cosmic Girls says, like cigarettes or alcohol or whatever vice you can comparte it with.
I uninstalled the apps maybe 6 months ago, it was a progressive thing. And yes, my life's better. I use that time to write, which helps a lot with my thinking and my living.
For example, I noticed yesterday that I felt I wanted to post a "fun tweet", did that, and immediately was bombarded by funny videos and text tweets I may like. And boy I did like them. I was abstracted like 5-10 minutes until I realized I was hooked, like a zombie.
Then the other day it was my birthday and my girlfriend who still uses instagram uploaded a nice photo. I thought it may be cool for me to repost in my story. I don't have the app installed but I didn't close my account so I enter via browser from time to time when someone sends me something. I decided to download the app to make a follow up story (a graphic one) and I believe you don't get the "creator studio" via browser (be thankful that you get to see a photo).
And yes, I was hooked, like what happened with twitter. Instagram knew what to show and I was bombarded by colors and pictures and reels and notifications. It's demential.
I'm safe now, uninstalled the app 10 minutes after. I'm back on my path. But boy that's super weird. I mean, I know I'm getting sucked by the dopamine rush and the muscle memory of the apps I used to enjoy as cigarettes and yet they still have some power over my will.
So yes, if you can, try getting off, see what happens, open a bear blog, it's free, write some stuff, or make a podcast, it's also free I believe. Or don't do anything in a computer or a phone and touch the grass, that's better for your overall health than anything.
Hope you get to try it if you're one of the zombies like I used to be.
