Track things to avoid self doubt

Read time: 1 min

I want to track everything since it became cool. Or, at least since I noticed the tracking and/ or personal knowledge management trend. I don’t track everything though, because of procrastination but also life.

I think tracking is nice because it’s information for your future self. Sometimes, that information could totally save your state of mind. Think of how many times you or others around you go like: “you never do this” or “you always do this”.

Oh, those extremes. They could be avoided if only I had the data to back up the nuances. And, for some things, I do have the data. And yes, it backs me up. I try to abide by the rule that it only needs to back ME up. And that it’s okay if it doesn’t.

I think the purpose of tracking things is met when your mind enters a self-doubt state and you can go and check that you did in fact average eight to ten thousand steps a day. Or that you’re keeping your weight goals.

You could also track to curate (like tracking which movies you like) but that’s for another post. For now, email me if you have some tracking tips or just would like to talk about it.
